2012 transport chiefs to outline their plans to Assembly

The Assembly’s Transport Committee will tomorrow question senior representatives from the key agencies responsible for getting athletes, spectators and Londoners around during the Games about 2012 transport plans.

- Hugh Sumner, Director of Transport, Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA)
- Garrett Emmerson, Chief Operating Officer, London Streets, Transport for London (TfL)
- Richard George, Director of Transport, London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG).
Tomorrow’s meeting is the second of two public sessions as part of the Committee’s investigation into 2012 transport. At a hearing on 3 November 2010 the Committee discussed issues relating to Olympic transport plans with borough, business and passenger representatives.
The Transport Committee meeting will take place on Wednesday, 12 January from 10am in the Chamber at City Hall (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1). Media and members of the public are invited to attend. The meeting can also be viewed via webcast.
Notes to editors:
- The Olympic Route Network consists of special ‘Games lanes’ installed on parts of the road network for use by around 80,000 members of the Games family.
- The Committee heard at its meeting on 3 November that controversial plans for restrictions and special traffic lanes as part of the Olympic Route Network may have serious knock-on effects on congestion, business and pedestrian safety.
- As well as investigating issues that matter to Londoners, the London Assembly acts as a check and a balance on the Mayor.
