Britain will compete in the table tennis at the London 2012 Olympics, it was announced today.

As hosts, the British Olympic Association can enter teams or individuals for sports which they would not otherwise qualify for.

The BOA will only do this where they think Britain can put in a creditable performance and there is a long-term plan for the sport in this country.

British table tennis, which joins handball and weightlifting in getting approval, will now have three men and three women at the Games.
